2014 World Cup: Asamoah Gyan hails 'tactically perfect' display in Germany draw

Asamoah Gyan and teammates celebrate.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has praised his teammates for putting up a spirited display in their 2-2 draw with Germany.

The Al Ain striker gave them the Black Stars a 2-1 lead but substitute Miroslav Klose stabbed in from close range to earn a point for the Germans.

Ghana conceded first when Mario Gotze header in the 51st minute but Andre Ayew leveled three minutes later in Fortaleza.

Gyan, though disappointed to secure a win, was satisfied with their overall performance.

"It was a great game and I would like to congratulate the team-we believed in ourselves against a tough side. We had to respect Germany but we were close," Gyan said in a post-match interview.

"We saw the real Ghana today. We were tactically perfect, we had to work hard because Germany are so good in possession. We didn't want to run around and waste energy.

"Now we have to go all out against Portugal in our last game. We have to focus and believe we can beat Portugal."

Ghana must now beat Portugal in their final Group G match on Thursday and hope other results their way to progress to the knockout stage.

Ghana best path to knockout round = USA lose to Portugal and then beat Germany while Ghana beat Portugal...if USA tie Germany we need more goals!!!! We have to beat Portugal!!!

Good performance from you, guys? But Gyan you still wasted two clear chances in the first half. Yes you can win against the Portuguese if selfish individual players like Jordan does not become part of the playing team on that day. A must win game calls for selfless players like Dede but not selfish, naive and stupid players like Jordam. Assisting a goal is equally important as scoring. If he had given a square pass for Gyan to score he would have been praised. Jordan is the reason why Ghana could not win today. Ghana would have won by 3 goals to 1 or 2 and should pray that we are able to qualify else he should be singled out for all the blame especially if we win or draw against the portuguese and realised that had we won against the Germans it could have sent us to the next stage of the competition.
