Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is now on the verge of becoming the undisputed all-time leading scorer of the Black Stars having equalled the long-existing 40-goal record of Edward Acquah and Kwesi Owusu.

The 28-year-old finished coolly after capitalizing on a defensive blunder in Ghana’s 4-0 thrashing of Korea Republic in their final warm up match for the 2014 World Cup on Monday night.

Gyan’s 44th minute strike saw him equal the all-time leading goalscorer record of the Black Stars of 40 goals jointly held by Edward Acquah and Kwesi Owusu.

The Al Ain ace is now in with a chance to setting a new record with games to come in the 2014 World Cup – barring any injuries.

The former Sunderland man has been in free scoring form for both club and country since moving to the UAE in 2011.

His statistics for Al Ain and the Black Stars keep soaring by the year and will now be greatly needed by his country as they attempt to stun the globe once more again at the World stage.

Ghana is drawn in a tough group where they will be facing USA in the opening Group G game next Monday before taking on European powerhouses Germany and Portugal.

The Black Stars hope to better their quarter final finish achieved in the last World Cup four years ago in South Africa.
