Maritzburg United defender Awal Mohammed insists he has no qualms with his exclusion from Ghana’s provisional squad ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

The 26-year-old failed to make the cut for the tournament despite churning out fine performances for his South African side.

The former Kotoko centre-back has been part of the team lately and was a member of the 2013 African Cup of Nations squad.

But the presence of other key players like John Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Rashid Sumaila and Jerry Akaminko mean there is no place for the ex-Feyernoord man.

He however says, he’s not losing sleep over his omission.

“I’m not surprised, it’s a thing of Football, after all it’s the national team, we have a lot of Ghanaians who play football abroad,” he said

“I wasn’t feeling that disappointed, I really thank Appiah for the time he made me to be in the Black Stars.

“He was confident in me that was the reason why he brought me in and now also he has to give others a chance and as well I see it as a thing of destiny.

“I don’t have to be upset with it; it’s just a thing of football.”

Mohammed has been an integral member of Maritzburg United side this season.
