Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says he had to sack duo Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng from the Black Stars' World Cup camp to send a strong message of his non-tolerance for indiscipline.
The former AC Milan teammates were told to leave the Ghana camp on the morning of their final group game against Portugal having engaged in various acts of indiscipline.
Sulley Muntari has physically abused a high ranking Ghana FA official during a meeting meant to resolve a row over the delayed payment of appearance fee to the players.
Kevin-Prince Boateng on the other hand is said to have insulted coach Kwesi Appiah in one of the earlier training sessions after the thrilling 2-2 draw with Germany.
Both players left the Ghana camp humiliated following their involvement in indsciplinary acts.
And even though Kwesi Appiah has left the door open for the duo to make future returns to the Black Stars team, he insists he needed to set a good example especially for the up and coming players with his decision.
“If you want to build a team and instill discipline, it is always important that you set things right to ensure it doesn't affect the whole team,†he said.
Ghana eventually lost 2-1 to Portugal to crash out of the 2014 World Cup after the group stage.
This is Ghana's worst performance ever since making its debut in the finals in Germany 2006.
