Coach Isaac ‘Opeele’ Boateng admitted his team played an overly cautious game in their 6-1 demolition to the Black Stars in the exhibition match played on Friday in Accra.
The star-studded Ghana squad took full advantage of the ‘naive’ Dream Team to record the resounding win before an impressive crowd at the Accra Sports Stadium with Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur in attendance.
Winger Christian Atsu led the pack by scoring a hat trick with the other goals scored by Jordan Ayew, Albert Adomah and Sulley Muntari.
The Dream Team, an assembly of players from Ghana’s second tier to the Premier League could only manage a consolation through a spot kick by Bright Adjei.
Assistant coach of the side Isaac Boateng however admitted his team suffered from pulling away from tackles in order to avoid injuries to the World Cup-bound Black Stars players.
“I believe my team was naive and you could see they were pulling away from a lot of the tackles especially in the first half,†he said after the game.
“The team also struggled to contain Agyemang-Badu and Afriyie Acquah in the first half but you saw the second half was a massive improvement.
“The players were now going in with sliding tackles and all that and it showed in the performance and result in the second half.â€
The Black Stars team have now concluded their four-day training program in Accra and will travel for their Rotterdam base on Saturday evening.
The team will be joined by Michael Essien and Kevin-Prince Boateng who were permitted to absent themselves from the early preparations in Accra.
