Experienced Ghanaian coach Emmanuel Kwesi Afranie has thrown his support behind Kwesi Appiah to defy all odds and make history by finishing at a respectable position in this year’s World Cup.

The Black Stars have been the trailblazers for Africa in the last two editions all with foreign coaches.

Appiah made history by becoming the first indigenous Ghanaian coach to qualify Ghana to the World Cup finals.

His biggest scoreline was the historic smacking of six-time African champions Egypt 6-1 in the first leg of the final qualifying round at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Afranie says Appiah has gone through the mill and would live up to the billing at the tournament.

"Kwesi has learnt his job well and has been with the team for a long time now," Afranie said.

"This is the World Cup and the motivation couldn't have been higher, I have no iota of doubt that the coach and his technical team will make history at this years world.

"Let's put our prayers behind the team and am sure they will make Ghana proud."
