2014 World Cup: Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah fears USA backlash

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah says it would not be easy to record a third-straight World Cup win over USA in Brazil this June.

The Black Stars hold the aces ahead of their Group G opener against the Yanks on 16 June in Natal.

Appiah scored the winner in Ghana’s 2-1 win over the Stars and Stripes in their 2006 finals Group stage match played in Nurnberg.

Four years later, he played a cameo to help eliminate them at the round 16 stage in South Africa.

Appiah has advised the current crop of players not to write off the Americans.

“It is going to be difficult because beating them on two occasions it is never going to be easy,” Appiah said in a recent interview.

“But here is the case they are playing us first and that will be difficult and definitely they are coming for revenge.”

USA look rejuvenated under former Germany and Bayern Munich coach Jurgen Klinsmann and have vowed to avenge.

team usa (USMNT) has no defence and no offense as well. Ghana has goalkeeper and back four problems too. Player for player (pound for pound) Ghana is far ahead except at the goalkeeper position. The have three keepers in the EPL.

It seems joblessness makes some people talk too much and unnecessarily, and Stephen Appiah is a chief culprit. He's been talking more than the coach himself. These useless and careless statements the former Capito has been making is petty and silly. Has anyone told Stephen Appiah that we are going to Brazil for site seeing? If he is joking......make he stop am now......enough of this bullshit.

masa, this is not a comparison of economical or military strength. lol. this is football and USA will be begging to give us the 3 points at the end of 90 minutes. these guys just found out there's a sport out about the sport that ghanians eat for breakfast lunch and dinner in addition to fufu of course. they named their game football because they didn't know that another game was invented way back by the Chinese during the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. seriously though SA is right, the USA game will be tough. they will not want to lose for a third time. we need to tap into the magic that has plagued team USA the last few world cups. they tend to concede early. so AA, get an early goal, and we will frustrate them. we may even be playing 11 on 10 by halftime..
