2014 World Cup: Ex-Ghana goalkeeper wants Kwarasey in Black Stars post ahead of Dauda

Published on: 20 April 2014
Adam Kwarasey is the preferred choice for Owu

Ex-Ghana goalkeeper George Owu says the Black Stars coach must play Adam Kwarasey ahead of Fatau Dauda if they are to excel at the 2014 World Cup in June because of the latter's regular club action.

The Hasaacas shot-stopper, who has been touted as one of the goalkeepers for Ghana at the upcoming tournament in Brazil, says even though both goalkeepers are good Kwarasey hold the advantage because of his regular club action.

There is an intense debate over who should man Ghana's post at the World Cup with as Dauda was the first choice helping the Black Stars to qualify for the World Cup.

However, the lack of club action for Dauda at South African side Orlando Pirates has recently weighed against the ex-AshGold keeper while Kwarasey has been regular and the captain for Norwegian league champions Stromsgodset.

Owu believes Kwarasey's regular club action should give him the chance to start at the World Cup as he would be the sharpest among the two contending goalkeepers.

“The two goalkeepers are good, but Fatau Dauda has been warming at the bench of Orlando Pirates while Kwarasey guided his club to win the Norwegian league," Owu said.

“Despite the fact that Fatau kept the post during the World Cup qualifiers, I prefer Kwarasey to him due to his regular club football action.”

Owu's performance at club level has led to calls from certain quarters for him to be included in the Ghana squad for the World Cup.

But he will face tough competition from CHAN goalkeeper Stephen Adams, Spain-based Razak Brimah and South Africa-based Daniel Agyei.

Kwarasey was still playing regularly for his club despite his catastrophic display at afcon 2012....I would rather put my trust in a bench warmer who is suffering because he is competing with a native, than the one who lacks confidence and is unable to control his defenders...thank God AA knows what I am talking about.

Fatau dauda is the man, shouting out instructions to the defense, making sure they don't sleep.kwarasey is equally good but some of the goals he concede are just unpardonable and also appears shaky in the posts

If you like use KWARASEY, DAUDA, ADAMS and OLELE (a.k.a ancient of days) all together on thesame post, it wont change the fact that GHANA will be disgraced in BRAZIL....... Nuff said...

Dauda should not be taken to Brazil. Did anybody watch him three weeks ago, playing for olando pirates? He was such shambolic. I don't know why anyone would compare Dauda to Kwaresey. Dauda has no place in the black stars.A bench warmer to world cup? Only in Ghana.

I dont think its possible to captain a team to a league title without confidence and leadership skills Kwarasey should be full of confidence due to his success in Norway after all players should be picked on club form and captaining a side to a championship is top form isnt it?

Ok for those not fully understanding Dauda's status at Pirates, let me state that between 4 3 coaches at Pirates he is been rated second best by all three so his bench warming has nutting to do with competing with a native. I also do not understand the talk about lack of confidence with A.k, which shrink made that conclusion? Is this media conclusion or shrink conclusion? Loss of confidence in even a gsme does not equate loss of confidence for life. Did he have loss of confidence when he played against brazil.? Yes he fumbled some games but so did Peter Cech. How confident is a keeper who is been warming bench for almost a year.? Confidence is built through consistency and at this moment A.K has that consistency which logically will mdan higher confidence.

To solve all these goalkeeping controversy, put Stephen Adams in the post. I believe he will do better than any of them.

Where from all this so called CONFIDENCE This is siimple u can't compare south Africa to Norway Not even Ghana even thought they r better of with infrastructure, if Kwarasey can acheive this great championship what make anyone think he cant man a post for Ghana? Mr Dauda has to face 3 coaches in Orlando and still cant make a cut . What s up with that ,this is a fact check . We have to be realistic guys . We all want the best for Ghana Mr Owu I agree with u 100% . Beside height is also a factor In defense . Playing in Europe give him (kwarAsey ) more boost . Why do we have more foreign players than the locals ? Are u kidding me ? Kwarasey , olele , and Stephen are my choices . . Olele .will be second best choice , he also know a lot about this europeans and got a experience as well . mr AA don't waist my time if u can't make a smart selection I got a lot to do and I will be watching u Long live Black Star , long live Ghana. I don't think u have any problem in goal keeping dept Stay bless and good luck

KWARASEY was fling better till Nassamu Yakubu showed up as a trainer of goalies.Besides I guess it will be a big crime to drop Daniel Adjei,Brimah or Adams by sending inactive Fatau to Brazil ahead of them.Since they hv been active at club levels variously .I think someone up there should be honest for once in dealing with this issue.

Foolishness. Yes he lacked confidence. But don't you know experience builds confidence? It's been years since he showed lack of confidence and I'm sure he's learned and recovered from that. Why do you think he was named as his team captain? Because he has matured. He noticed his flaws and polished it. That's development people. We are representing the country on the world level and it will be a great disgrace to even field bench Warmers in a low league. Respect our No. 1.

This makes me remember the period when I used to be in koforidua sec tech and still played for fotofast fc of dansoman in the colts league.i used to command a regular place in the defence even though I trained just once in a week. Some players are better even when they don't see regular club action. Kwarasey is a player we all love as a committed Norweygien born Ghanaian. But massa this is the world cup and any little blunder will cost us heavily. The guy has little confidence and can't control his defence. Dauda kept the post and ensured our qualification with this same non club action situation

Mr Sticky Straw.. massa you see what I talked about earlier in the other posts..Well personally I don't hv any issues with you than your ability to comment on stuffs without making the necessary research..For your information ,Ghana's league is 77th place in the world rankings while the Norwegian league is 29th.So how can you compare both leagues ? Nigerian league is ranked much much higher than the struggling Ghanaian league .Like Schywee had said our league even lack proper sponsors. So dont you think if our league is good enough sponsors wouldn't rush all over the world to come take care of its financial needs. The league is not even attractive to the fans anymore.Ask yourself when was the last time you had gone to see a local match at the stadium..Pls note am not talking about a blackstars match but rather the league proper.Well you know your answer .i guess they even wouldn't depend on spectators to make money if the league is good enough. How many fans watch the Arab leagues in the gulf? Not as much compared to Ghana's yet the get a lot of sponsors though. Besides how do you expect a less structured league as Ghana's to be better than a standardized European league as the norwegian's.For your information the league where your brother Fatau plays is even less ranked as compared again to the Norwegian league.Even so after pirates changing 3 coaches they deem him not good enough to keep the post .how possible can a keeper keep the posts just 3 times in a whole year and expect his reflexes to better and be match fit ?..well,only you have an answer to this question..Besides those goals I watched them beat Fatau each time he mans the posts for Pirates ,could be possibly saved by any good goal keeper.I dont if you hv a DStv at your home .I guess you could easily hv found those errors with Fatau. He could hv made those saves if he was a bit taller ,heights do counts as a KWARASEY's saves against Ronaldinho's free kicks in our friendly against Brazil then compare by asking yourself if Fatau can make such stretching saves..Moreover,he looked really shaky with the same lack of confidence issues as they claimed KWARASEY suffered with the blackstars and made so much aerial mistakes..sigh ! His balance wasn't good enough in those matches.. Maybe watch on YouTube.then you will know much about what's happening to your brother Fatau .am sure you will be honest to yourself after that ,I guess. Moreover,Fatau only kept 3 of the World Cup qualifying matches being the Zambia home game in Kumasi as well as the 2 Egypt games which he Fatau suck real bad..KWARASEY did massive of those jobs from Botswana,Sudan,Congo,Zambia (away) least a total of 7 matches against Dauda's 3..So who really deserves to be manning the post for Ghana ???

I like Dauda, he has performed admirably for the Black Stars but Adam Kwarasey has all the confidence of one freshly minted from winning the Norwegian league championship. The guy has all it takes he is the Captain of Stromsgodset and has shown the leadership qualities worthy of a champion. Adam Kwarasey will do fine, an extended camp experience with his Black Stars team-mates will prepare him to man the posts at the World Cup, he is a champion and the World Cup is made for champions!

Tye league that struggled to find even sponsors and have a heavy exodus level?Dont eeven talk about stages in europa nad champions league...cos that will make Al-ain in Asia better than Newcastle..... Or Asante Kotoko better than West ham or Ghana league better than Scotish league.. ...

Truth really hurt. Kwarasey did stop some dangerous free kick from Ronaldinho (Brazil v Ghana) friendly march, which he (Ronaldinho) thought it was a goal. 2010 world cup it wasn't only Asamoah Gyan or those who miss the penalties, but if Ole le had stop the cheap free kick from Diego Forlan and able to stop also one or two penalties we should have progress. This is the reason why we prefer Kwarasey before them, with him it is not lucky or 50-50, but he read the game and does his best that's why he is the captain in his team and best keeper at where he is. 2009 when Ghana happen to be the first African youth team to win the world cup in Egypt it was Daniel Adjie who stop some decisive penalties which gave them the victory over Brazil. Once again it’s not that we don’t like Fatau, but there’re opinions and facts, and we’re talking about facts here when it comes to critical situation that, who can save us here Olele come last in the list and Kwarasey comes first. My opinion….
