Ex-Ghana sports minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah says he regrets playing a key role in facilitating the return of Kevin-Prince Boateng to the Black Stars.

The Schalke ace has been slapped with an indefinite suspension following an altercation with head trainer Kwesi Appiah during the country’s participation at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The 27-year-old only staged a return to the team in August last year after a two-year absence.

The country’s sports minister played a leading role in convincing the former AC Milan star to return to the team but Elvis Afriyie Ankrah says he regrets his actions.

“With the benefit of hind sight, I think that we could have done without people like that (Kevin Prince Boateng) and I am being very frank,” he said on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana.

“This is a team that I have been with throughout the qualifiers and there was always harmony, there was always unity, we had our differences but we would negotiate.

“And mind you, he (Kevin Prince Boateng) has a different cultural orientation. Most of the guys were cultural based so there’s a way with which we relate to them.

“I am told that at one training session, there was an incident between Kevin (Prince Boateng) and the Coach (Kwasi Appiah) and the general behaviour and demeanour was not acceptable.”

Ghana’s campaign was rocked by player agitation and indiscipline which caused the country’s early exit from the tournament.
