Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has received his first medal at Orlando Pirates despite not making the team for the NedBank Cup final against Bidvest Wits.

The Black Stars shot-stopper was in suit in the stands as he watched his side beat Wits 3-1 to win the cup title on Saturday afternoon.

A brace by South African striker Kermit Erasmus and Sifiso Myeni proved too strong for The Students who opened the scoring through Jabulani Shongwe.

Dauda’s failure to make the bench for the cup final is the latest slap in the face which could trigger his exit from the club.

The 28-year-old made just three league appearances for the Bucs despite arriving with a huge reputation as the first choice for Ghana at the start of the season.

His lack of regular playing time led to calls to have him dropped from the Black Stars squad for the 2014 World Cup.

The ex AshantiGold goalkeeper however appears to be on his way towards making his World Cup debut in Brazil having been named in Ghana’s provisional squad by coach Kwesi Appiah.

Dauda kept the post for the Black Stars throughout its successful qualifying campaign for the World Cup.

Coach Kwesi Appiah therefore chose to keep faith in him after naming him in his provisional 26-man squad for June’s finals in Brazil.
