2014 World Cup Feature: FIVE players most likely to miss Ghana squad
John Mensah is at the risk of missing the Ghana squad

As Ghana head coach Kwesi Appiah prepares to unwrap his provisional 30-man squad for the 2014 World Cup, GHANAsoccernet.com looks at players who at the risk of missing out of his squad.

John Mensah -  FK Nitra

Former Bayern Munich defender Samuel Osei Kuffour and several others have called for his inclusion in the final list and Kwesi Appiah's visit last month revived his dying hopes of playing at the World Cup. But a nagging back injury sustained almost four weeks ago has limited him to the treatment room and he is not likely to return any time soon.

Richard Kingston - Balikesirspor

Richard Kingson was hoping to wind up his career with a last appearance at the FIFA World Cup and moved to Balikesirspor in Turkey and indeed he helped them to secure promotion. However, Kingson's last invitation brought wide public chastisement and criticism for the Ghana coach from local fans and the head coach won't risk recalling him. Besides the performance of Adam Kwarasey, Stephen Adams and Fatau Dauda gives him confidence. Kingson is not regarded as competition for any of these current keepers and won't be in the final squad.

Isaac Vorsah - Red Bull Salzburg

Isaac Vorsah’s hopes of playing in the 2014 FIFA World Cup is hanging by a thread after failing to play in the last game of the season in Austria on Sunday. This means the defender has not been in action for the entire season hurting his chances of being named in Ghana’s squad on Monday. The centre-back was hoping to play some matches before the season ends to prove his fitness to coach Kwesi Appiah after a one-year injury induced absence. But he was not named in the Red Bull Salzburg set up which lost 2-0 at Wolfsberger AC which puts his fitness in doubt.

Anthony Annan - Schalke 04

Annan only returned to action in January and managed fewer than four Bundesliga games for Schalke 04, playing just 29 minutes in the entire season. Though the 27-year-0ld is expected to be in the provisional squad, the experience of Michael Essien, form of Rabiu Mohammed, Afriyie Acquah and Agyemang-Badu could limit his chances in central midfield.

Emmanuel Frimpong - Free agent

The former Arsenal switched his nationality from English to play for the West African country but is at the danger of missing out of Rio with his current dip in form. Relegated English Championship side Barnsley have refused to offer him a permanent deal and now a free agent. His personality on social media is becoming more and more problematic as many think he focuses online than on football. Initially Frimpong was in the plans of Kwesi Appiah but the current turn of things do not favour him and he could miss out.
