Powerful Ghana Football Association Executive Committee member George Afriyie is worried by the lack of self-belief that the Black Stars can win the 2014 World Cup.
Ghanaian fans will be seeking an improved performance from the Black Stars at the global showpiece after they reached the quarters in South Africa four years ago.
While many of the stellar qualifying countries have set their eyes on the ultimate, the expectations of many of the current crop of Black Stars have largely been low with a potential semi-final berth seen as a huge achievement.
Captain Asamoah Gyan, Kwadwo Asamoah, Andre Ayew but to mention just a few have all expressed their desire to reach the last four of the tournament â⬓ which will be a major feat chalked by any African country.
However, Afriyie, who doubles as Ghanaââ¬â¢s Under-20 management committee chairman, is not enthused about the lack of ambition.
ââ¬ÅWe have to look at certain factors which include ambition. I think generally our ambition has not been up to scratch,â⬠he told Accra-based Happy FM
ââ¬ÅWhen other teams are aspiring to win the Cup, many are talking about semi-final berth.
ââ¬ÅWe want to go there and win the Cup not to place third or fourth. We have to aspire for greatness as people and not be satisfied with anything.
ââ¬ÅExactly the point Iââ¬â¢m making that the lack of ambition could prove counter-productive.
ââ¬ÅI believe in our team and we should believe in them to go for gold. Thatââ¬â¢s where the target should be.ââ¬
Ghana are drawn in a difficult group which has European duo Portugal and Germany as well as USA.
