Ex-Germany international striker Gerald Asamoah says Die Manschaaft are favourites to win the World Cup despite being placed in the same group with his country of birth.

Asamoah, who was born in Ghana before moving to the European country at a tender age, believes the Germans have got the men to win them the title.

Ghana have been drawn in a tough Group G where they will face Germany, Portugal and the United States.

Asamoah believes Germany have got what it takes to win the World Cup in Brazil in June.

“I felt we could’ve already won it in 2010, but we have an even better chance this time around. The boys have matured, plus a number of quality players have come through,” Asamoah said.

“I firmly believe Germany can become World Champions, although they’re of course not the only ones to have improved in recent years.”

Asamoah added: “I’m confident Klose and Gomez get fit in time as both have returned to training. Also, Löw has a good alternative available in Pierre-Michel Lasogga [of Hamburger SV]. He’s hard-working and fearless; let’s see whether Löw picks him.”

Asamoah was keen on playing for Ghana before he was snubbed by ex-Black Stars coach Guiseppe Dossena.

He went on to play for Germany and had several caps as well as playing at the World Cup before he retired.

mes for Germany scoring six goals and featured for them in both 2002 and 2006 World Cups.
