2014 World Cup: Ghana coach Appiah rules out injured players in Black Stars final squad
Kwesi Appiah wants to monitor players to ensure no injured players are selected

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says he is constantly monitoring the injury situation of his players abroad to ensure that no half-fit players are sent to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in June.

The Black Stars have been rocked with recent injuries compounding the already fragile situation of the of the key players in the squad who have long-term injuries.

Uncertainty surrounds the status of towering defender Isaac Vorsah who is struggling to return to fitness in Austria after suffering the setback which has ruled him out for close to one year.

Important and hardworking midfielder Rabiu Mohammed is also struggling with a thigh injury while the AC Milan duo of Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien are recent injury concerns for the Black Stars manager.

Ex-captain John Mensah is seeking to return to the fold for the World Cup but he seems not to have overcome his injury problems as he is currently out of action at Nitra FC.

Aware of the injury problems with some of his key players, Appiah says they will need to properly assess the injured players before naming his provisional 30-man squad next month.

“I will pick only fit players to represent Ghana at the World Cup. The injured players would have to be well assessed before we settle on the final list," Appiah is quoted to have said.

"These are all senior players who will give us a good push but we can’t take injured players to the World Cup so we must do proper monitoring.

“I will look to pick the best team that will enable us to get through, playing those who can give us the best guarantees from a physical and psychological point of view.”

Ghana face a tough task at the World Cup where they will play Germany, Portugal and USA.
