2014 World Cup: Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah dismisses resignation talk

Published on: 02 July 2014
Kwesi Appiah insists he won't resign

By Patrick Akoto

Kwesi Appiah has reiterated his desire to stay on as Ghana coach, defiantly insisting he has no intention to quit.

The country’s washed-out  campaign has come under the microscope after the team exited the tournament in the group phase.

The future of the under-fire trainer has come under the spotlight with growing calls for his dismissal.

Critics have argued that he lacks the command over the star-studded Black stars players and do not have the technical and tactical eye to challenge his colleagues at the top level.

But the former Kotoko defender insists he will not walk out on the job.

"I am determined to continue the job. The performance of the young ones was good,” he said at a well attended press conference in Accra on Wednesday.

The Ghana FA has offered him a two-year extension deal but yet to pen-to-paper.

Why won't he stay on? because even here in Canada, America and London, even the top medical doctor don't even make $10,000 a month, how much more a security guard now making $20,000 plus a month quit or resign from his post. Black Star will never be the team we have known for a decade now if Akwasi Appiah continue to be the coach. He has lost his respect among the players and almost every soccer loving Ghanaian. He has greatly dissapointed us so it's time for him to move on, and leave Black Stars alone.

“I am determined to continue the job. The performance of the young ones was good,” Said by Kwasi Appiah. He is able to say this because the president of Ghana himself is not able to sack non performing minsters, Hence the GFA's inability to sack this incompetent man. He should know that we love our footballers than him and must be careful the way he handle issues concerning them. He must tender in his resignation before we fail to qualify for the next AFCON.

Ghana can never win any cup with this cocoa famer because he doesn't have UEFA coaching license nor head coach experience to manage your team. Your good players will always be divided because most of them don't respect him.Ghana needs a qualified coach with track record.Thank you.

Let's be honest, we all know he's an incopetent coach who lacks the communication skills to handle the players, the press or the fans.

I support the crusade to oust him.Never seen such incompetence at a higher level by a coach Even Americans, who do not understand much soccer, say he is not good. . And another painful thing,he let our African brothers who were rooting for us down, big fucking time.

Incompetence is rewarded in Ghana -Yawa So in 2014 an organization like GFA went to WC with out the below participation contracts and player conduct and payment agreements in place? Any where else this would be terms of dismissal for mismanagement. -And an immediate lesson from the debacle is that discipline will henceforth be a prerequisite to enlist any player into the team, and the players themselves will be made to sign contracts that would spell out their engagements with the team and govern the payment of allowances.

The arrogance of AA & GFA is unbelievable, they should all resign! Also the amount of people involved with managing the blackstars should be reduced, clearly they are too many incompetent people in the management. Its really said to say this but we need a Western coach and managers since some Ghananians are not capable properly running a organization smh. If AA had any dignity and respect he would have resigned, you have shamed us enough and no decent person supports you!

Why are we waisting time with Akwesi Appiah and the GFA? AA have the gusts to dismiss a resignation talks and we are not doing anything about it? We should act fast and stop waisting our time with these losers. He should be smart enough to resign to avoid the circumstances. If Ghana keep AA, am out, and i know so do everybody.

Corrupt GFA should clean up the dirt in your house! Fire Nyantakyi, fire Moses Armah who also assaulted Muntari but enjoys an impunity, fire all members that flew their kids and wife to Brazil on our tax payer's costs. Don't they realize that no one is trusting them anymore. Their image is destroyed ans they shoud kick out the greedy money thiefs.

eric and my other brothers and sisters we in the process of launching a pettition and a fora on the subject at the abeng it, should be up and running in the next 48 hours. all's output would be greatly welcomed because if we dont stand up now, nothing will yet ever be done. we need a revamp of the fa and the immediate dismissal of appiah and resignation of nyantakyi and all the corrupted officials and arrogant adminstrators who acted in more ways than one to bring the name of ghana, bs and football into disrepute.,
