Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah believes he has taken enough lessons from his opening 2014 World Cup defeat to the USA to make him wiser going into the crucial second game against Germany on Saturday.

The Black Stars got their third successive campaign at the World Cup finals in Brazil to a stuttering start with goals from Clint Dempsey and John Brooks confining Ghana to an opening defeat last Monday in Natal.

Andre Ayew could only manage a consolation for the African giants who are now desperate for points to resurrect their campaign going into tough games against Germany and Portugal.

Ghana were unlucky to lose against the American having had the lion’s share of the play and goalscoring opportunities.

The Black Stars’ failure to convert the numerous chances however came back to haunt them as rookie Brooks headed in the eventual winner after Ayew had pulled them even – finishing off a delightful play with captain Asamoah Gyan.

The Black Stars now face a daunting task in getting points off Germany in their next Group G on Saturday in Fortaleza.

But coach Kwesi Appiah is confident the hard lessons learnt from his team’s defeat to the Americans will offer him the experience needed in taking his side forward.

“I have learnt a lot, considering the fact that when you create chances and you are not able to finish it comes done to whether your midfielders or strikers are doing the right thing at the right time,” Appiah said.

“We need to go back and see our mistakes and correct them.”
