2014 World Cup: Ghana defender Daniel Opare hits back at critics over USA display

Daniel Opare has defended his performance against USA

Ghana defender Daniel Opare has hit back at critics who questioned his performance during their 2-1 defeat to the USA in their opening 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The 23-year-old came under the spotlight following his not-too impressive performance against the Yanks in Natal.

Many criticized the performance of the FC Porto new recruit and questioned Kwesi Appiah’s decision to draft him into the team after they suffered the painful defeat.

But the former Standard Liege right-back has rubbished such claims and wants ‘people to open their eyes’ when criticizing.

“People are not being fair with their assessment, because I did most of the work with Atsu in our first game,” he told the Ghana News Agency

“Go and watch the video again and you will realise my critics were wrong in my assessment.

“I admit that there were some errors on my part, but I don’t see it as woeful as people were describing me.

“I sincerely believe I put up the best of performance on the day, but it was just unfortunate we lost the game.”

He says he’s not getting distracted by the negative media reportage on him.

“I am doing my work and that’s all. I will remained focus and will not be detracted about what people say because we have a bigger task ahead to deliver in our next game,” he added

If i were you, mister Opare, i'd say that critics have even been mild, in comparison to how lame i was in that match.

Actually I was also baffled at the countless criticisms levelled at Opare after the 1st match. I thought he stormed forward well when required and his defending was on point though I agree some of his balls into the area left much to be desired.

Opare is Ghana's best right-back. He wasn't excellent but he was good enough. All you hearts of oak fans should be ashamed of yourselves. Your hatred and tribalistic criticisms of everything Akan or Ashanti only pulls Ghana backwards. These appalling hatred attacks on the GFA down to the Akan players in the Black Stars are all in vain. Everything Nyantakyi, Akwasi Appiah and Maxwell Konadu do are not good enough. Yet, they have achieved and done far better than the previous administrators. Please discard your primitive behaviors and jealousy and live longer and healthy life.

Opinions are like noses each and every body have one. To me Opare is our right back we are having in our nation and even Africa as whole! Yes you can argue about it but thats your opinion too. My humble advice for my younger brother is not to justify himself about what others says. The kindof job you are doing that is how it is. You should rather keep quiet and focus than trying to justifying your action. So people are there only tp distruct you! Take it from me!!! All the best young man!

I have been one of those who have consistently being critisising our lateral defenders but i think in the USA game i can agree with Opare. Atsu was the most selfish and ended up either losing the balls to the US or misfiring. He never also helped Opare anytime he loses the ball and ended up putting Opare under constant pressure. In the Germany Atsu changed that atitude after receiving a lot of criticism from the public and saw him always recovering for Afful when he get caught in the attack. He was also dropping to help Afful anytime Ghana loses the ball. So i guess Opare have a point there. But i will also advice him to desist from response like this and keep on working hard and allow his performance to do the talking because he has failed to live up to his potential that made Real Madrid asking for his signature sometime back.
