Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has thrown his support behind coach Kwesi Appiah’s selection for the 2014 World Cup, describing the squad as ‘the best at this material moment’.

Coach Kwesi Appiah named his provisional 26-man squad at an organized press conference on Monday.

The Black Stars trainer will however drop three more players to arrive at the required 23-man squad for June’s finals in Brazil.

Many have hailed Appiah’s squad which included surprises like Jeffry Schlupp and David Accam who have been in good form for Leicester City and Helsingborg respectively.

Kwesi Appiah displayed immense courage in dropping experienced players; Anthony Annan, John Mensah and Isaac Vorsah who have hardly played for their clubs this season due to injuries.

But the GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi believes the coach did a good job in naming a highly competitive provisional squad ahead of the commencement of their preparation for the World Cup.

“I think that the coach has selected the best players at this material moment and we need to support him,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com after the squad was named.

“I have no fixed mind or preference for any player. My preference is for the coach to select the best players and these are the best players now so I support him.”

Coach Kwesi Appiah will begin preparing his team in a non-residential camp from May 20 in Accra.

The team will play a farewell match against a local select side before departing for the Netherlands to intensify their preparations.
