Though Ghana keeper Fatau Dauda was limited to the substitute bench in South Africa during the league season, he is one of the few individuals keeping their name up at the World Cup.

Since joining Pirates from AshGold after the 2013 AFCON, the 27-year-old warmed the bench in most part of the season but when called up for Ghana duty at the World Cup, he showed no rust at all as he impressively helped Ghana to deny Germany on his debut World Cup game.

There was finally some profile for South Africa at the Fifa World Cup at the weekend as Orlando Pirates reserve goalkeeper Fatau Dauda got to play.

Dauda got the nod ahead of Norway-based Adam Kwarasey in goal for Ghana, who put up a heroic showing against mighty Germany but let a lead slip to draw 2-2 and are now on the brink of elimination.

Dauda had little chance with either goal for Germany, the first from Mario Goetze and the second from Miroslav Klose.

There were little signs of nerves from a rusty Dauda after spending almost all the season on the bench with the Buccaneers.

He came off his line early to make a good save from Mesit Ozil and stopped an effort from Sami Khedira.

Though Pirates did not allow him enough playing time, they have earned huge money from FIFA due to his participation at the World Cup.
