2014 World Cup: Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng counting on Essien boost

Schalke 04 ace Kevin Prince-Boateng believes Ghana have been strengthened for the 2014 World Cup by the return of midfielder Michael Essien.

Boateng and his teammates missed the services of the AC Milan at the last tournament in South Africa where they reached in the quarter-final.

Essien was excluded after undergoing surgery to correct a knee injury he sustained at the 2010 Nations Cup.

Although there are doubts about Essien’s current form and during, Boateng says his inclusion has bolstered the squad for the challenge ahead.

“It is very important that Essien is back. He was a key player we lost. That way our midfield will get much stronger, I believe," the former Germany youth international told Goal Ghana.

“Thus, we also have a chance to win against the Germans. Already at the last World Cup, we were one of the few teams that caused problems for Germany."

Ghana will face USA on 16 June in their Group G opener before engaging Germany and Portugal.

The 2010 Ghana squad was far much better than the current one. Essien is too old & tired. Even Muntary and the stolen Germany international KPB are finished players due to old age. This Ghana squad shall become fourth in the group.

long before these comments by kpb, i have maintained kpb will be at his best if he has the assurance that essien is playing behind him in midfield. i pray hard that the coach finds a place for both in the starting 11.

Lessen and Kelvin should be given the necessary assistance as their fitness will boast the teams confidence a lot

Whiles Akwasi Appiah is thinking of the world cup. Patrice Beaumulle is also gathering a squad to fufill Japan's training section to find out how Ivory Coast plays. And they shall be dissappointed cause CIV would whoop thier asses. I have lauched a support against Japan campaign for what thei female ref did to our lasses. I bet Ivory coast will watch the aimless game

Mumbi I just like the way you love the ghana team. You are definitely routing for ghana but don't have the balls to accept it. Meanwhile you keep fishing for every single bit of info about the players. Good job and keep the fake opposition coming. At least you put a smile on our faces.
