2014 World Cup: 'Ghana must not be nervous against Germany' - Asamoah Gyan

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has urged his teammates to fight any nerves when they face Germany at the World Cup on Saturday.

The Black Stars, who lost their opening match to the USA, will be all but out of the tournament if they are beaten by the Group G leaders.

Despite Germany's status as favourites to win the game following their resounding 4-0 victory over Portugal, Gyan believes that Ghana could cause an upset.

"We need to sit down, take a long hard look at our errors and work hard," the 28-year-old striker told "We have to regain our focus and not let nerves get the better of us.

"It's going to be a difficult match but we need to stick together more than ever and play our game. I can't say what's going to happen but football always throws up a lot of surprises."

Gyan has scored 40 goals in 79 appearances for Ghana since he made his debut in 2003.

@ isquared, you're right about 2006 WC that we won our 2nd match after losing to Italy in our 1st game. But remember we had a better tactician back then. Unfortunately this time around we have a clueless and useless coach, so doubt we can make it. We will not be in this situation in the first place if not because of useless AA. let's keep praying, may be we will be lucky. we too much talent and these boys deserves a better coach.

I love Ghana and I also do admire the Ghanaian Football, as well as the Black Stars. But let us all be honest to the world. There is no way that Ghana can progress to the knockout stage. Ghana should have beaten USA and get a draw either against Germany or Portugal. It will take miracles for Ghana to progress. I should have agreed with some friends, if only God can do me a fovour, by sending 11 angels down and named them as black stars to play against Germany, then Ghana can progress.Until then, I will see u in Russia 2018

Just remember.... in 2006 how we came back strongly after losing 2-0 to Italy and beat up a very strong Czech team that had just demolished US 3-0. For those counting Ghana out, note that soccer is not played on paper just based on individual player quality but on so many other intangibles. Yes, Germany is tactically better but Ghana has more skilled players so if Ghana can match them tactically, limit mistakes and be more clinical upfront, Ghana will come out on top. I predict a 3-2 win for Ghana!!!!

@ bestinfo... not a bad selection and tactical formation against Germany!!! My only concern will be KPB's lack of mobility due to his ongoing knee problems. May bring KPB on later with a fully-fit Majid Waris and instead start Badu, as this formation will require each midfield player to cover a lot of real estate. Good suggestion though, and I hope coach Appiah uses the ideal selection and tactical formation as this German team is not as good as 2010 and very beatable by a more skillful set of Ghanaian players.

I'm a football supporter, have followed soccer for the past 35 years. But I don't think Ghana can qualified this time around to the next stage of the FIFA world cup in Brazil. The Ghanaian Coach made a big mistake in his team selection for the first game against USA and he paid a price for that. The Ghanaian coach should have included Essien and Prince in starting XI.It is over for Ghana. Good luck next time. See u in 2018.t

If our coach is very smart enough to win against Germany. he will play like this --------------kwarasey------------- ------Boye-----Essian-----Jonathan------ Afful--K.P---Rabiu---Muntary--K.Asamoah ----------------Dede-------------------- -----------------------A.Gyan---------- When ever we lose the ball Affull and K.Asamoah becomes defenders. Which means we will have 5 back when we don't have the ball plus 3players in front of the defends..when we r in possession Afful and K.Asamoah becomes our wingers..if A.A play like this against Germany trust me we will win and win very well and very easy. God bless Ghana

Really gyan? Who are u saying this to? The fans or the players? Is good that u have given that advice but better go the rooms of boye, mensah and opare to them this good news! These THREE USELESS MUSKETEER'S thinks we are in Brazil for holidays or we in Brazil to relax and play BY HEART FOOTBALL! BOoye has always been nervous in each and every match even when we are playing each minnows! He is always full of nerves and we better check this guy seriously before the untold happens! For all u know, he is suffering from some serious NERVOUS PROBLEMS and is about time our doctors check on him before something bad happens! Am not a prophet of doom and I am not saying something bad should happen to him but am beginning to suspect that he has a serious nervous problems and in football too much of it can be FATAL! Infact we shot ourselves in the foot and we have ourselves to blame because prior to Brazil, a lot of people said it over and over again that our best chance to progress is to beat the USA and we did lost to a very poor and average team that has no business in beating us all because of two useless defenders who has all the experience in the world of global game but still panick doing each and every game! How can a player who plays day in and out in HIGH PRESSURE LEAGUES IN EUROPE full of thousand fans panick each time he plays in the national team? I dont simply underatnd this at all from boye and Jonathan! Even SUMAILA who plays in the mediocrity south Africa league doesn't panick and he was all action against the trio of Robbie, rvp and sneider but when Jonathan was asked to replaced akaminko, he was scared and didn't want to!! Is true that qualify conquers quantity and these two good for nothing defenders who has tasted major touranments including WCS and afcon are typical eg of quantity but not quality!!

Actually John Boye returned from injury not long at Rennes and probably not on top of his game and therefore Needs to be replaced by Sumaila who in my opinion did very well against the Holland apart from that silly tackle on Robben.

In 2006, we had quality defenders, John Mensah, John Paintsil and the rest made our defends unbeatable. What about today? John Boye, Jonathan Mensah and Opare cannot be relied upon. They are off colour defenders. I'm yet to understand why Dr Appiah is not playing Afriyie Acquah and Harrison Afful. At any giving day Afriyie Acquah is a better player than Rabiu. If we are serious about our match against the Germany, we should not pair Boye and Mensah at our central Defense. Germans are very efficient, hence we have to find a way of using AFRIYIE ACQUAH'S strength. Kwadwo Asamoah should learn to give passes to Dede. Sometimes he is too selfish as well. Individual glory doesn't win matches but teamwork. He must watch our match again and advise himself on that.

Mate I think you have got it spot on, I really think we should switch too the 3-5-2 formation and the players you have picked makes a lot of sense. DEDE must improve despite his goal and in that free role and his work rate it can work as he can drift to the left and right. Asamoah playing in the left wing back position will be more at home and comfortable to attack with more freedom. Muntari being left sideded of the three centre mids again is smart as this is the role he plays at AC Milian and he can act as cover when asamoah is rampaging forward. Rabiu must be disciplined and shield the back four very well not moving beyond the half way line. when its about 70 mins bring on acquah to finish of the job. KPB will be given licence to break forward but also to protect the defence in a text book box to box role. This line up can work, because its important for all of us too remember we do not have to win this game to go through, we can even go through with a loss still. However if this team can play to its maximum capacity I know we can at least get a solid draw, we must not go out all guns blazing we must adapt a bit of the 2010 mentality where we make ourselves extremely hard to beat. I'll believe so BLACKSTARS achieve!!!
