Ghana striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom scored a brilliant goal for Elche FC in the Spanish La Liga but they were held to a 1-1 stalemate by visiting Lavante on Friday evening.

Elche manager Fran Escribá reposed confidence in the on-loan Juventus striker but starting him and he paid back by scoring a 63rd minute opener at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero for Los Franjiverdes.

Despite a massive dominance by Elche, they were unable to take the lead in the entire first-half with Boakye missing a glorious chance narrowly.

But he made amends when he shot his side upfront midway through the second-half with a trademark finish.

The visitors nearly made Elche pay for their struggles in the final third, but Hector Rodas headed wide from Pape Diop's free kick from the right.

Yet Fran Escriba's men were finally rewarded for their first-half superiority as they made the breakthrough in the 63rd minute, with Boakye drilling low past Navas from the edge of the area.

Levante's response was impressive, however, as they levelled just 11 minutes later with Rodriguez coolly slotting home from close range.

The strike has taken Boakye's tally to 5 goals in 28 games for his side.

talk about a striker who decides a match.... then Richmond Boakye Yiadom cannot be compared with any other player in the black stars.... I hope the coach is watching, certainly he is not blind .

His has score 5 league goals in 1119 minutes which is equivalent to 12 games... So basically is averaging 1 goal every 2 games.

He's the only Ghanaian striker playing in a toughest league in the world, scores any time he's given the chance to play. Boakye yiadom will surely help the black stars in the world cup.

I prefer this guy to Jordan ayew who needs his brother dede to babysit him,the fact that dede is an "automatic" choice doesn't mean he should also be called.boakye is more aggressive, powerful and pacy and very unpredictable.

Why not replace the struggling Adomah with Boakye?? Boakye is better than Adomah and so is Jordan.

Coach akwesi Appiah if ur finding it difficult to drop Jordan bcos of abedi Pele, den call all four strikers. We can't afford to loss a striker like boakye yiadom, who is playing in the Spanish la liga at the world cup. I pray God speaks to you to do the right thing AA

Before his injury in february,Uche was the 3rd highest goal scorer in d la liga only behind ronaldo and costa. Yet Keshi isnt even considering him for d world cup. That shows strength in depth in d attack of nigeria.

I will treat any squad AA brings out as a hoax if Boakye-Yiadom is not part...He is our only striker who plays the in the toughest league and yet scores.Jordan cannot go to the WC ahead of Boakye if AA is not scared of stepping on Abedi Pele's toes.

...That shows the depth of corruption,419 and nepotism in Nigeria football.

Hahaha.Only one ghanaian striker plays in a tough league. No wonder there is no single ghanaian in d most competitive league, the EPL. Why would EPl clubs sign amateur gaynaians ?. Boakye has scored d same amount of goals as nigeria's worst striker in d la liga. Odion Ighalo of granada. He has scored 5 goals too. And Ighalo is considered not good enough to play 4 even our U/23. We have d likes of Odemwingie(a winger) scoring week-in week-out in the EPL. Anichebe scoring against the EPL top teams. Emenike with 15 goals already dis season. Imoh ezekiel with 10 goals already in belgium. Thats why we can overlook africa's best striker in d la liga-Ikechukwu Uche.

uche has scored 12 goals and not 13. besides he has played in LA liga for long and this is the first season for Boakye. what strikers has Nigeria that they talk about. uche is far better than all Nigeria's strikers, it is just that he is not favoured by the coach.
  • Coach says:

Ozone, your best players are all bench warmers. Victor Moses ' the short man' is only interested in carrying other players boots not to mention Mikel Obi who has made sitting at bench his own. Echijile is warming bench at Monaco, O duamendi busy warming bench in relegation threatened series B team. All Nigerian players either warm bench or play in mediocre leagues and clubs.
