2014 World Cup: Mahatma scores to make strong case for his inclusion in Ghana squad

Published on: 11 May 2014
Mahatma Otoo nodded home the leveller for Sogndal

In-form striker Mahatma Otoo made a strong case for his inclusion in Ghana's provisional World Cup squad when scoring in the Norwegian top-flight on Sunday.

The former Hearts of Oak attacker continued his outstanding form in the Norwegian top-flight by scoring just 24 hours before coach Kwesi Appiah names his squad for the World Cup.

Otoo scored to help his club Sogndal beat IK Start 2-1, establishing that his impressive start to the season is not a fluke.

The 22-year-old drew level for Sogndal with a 67th minute finish for Sogndal after Glenn Andersen had scored five minutes earlier for the visitors.

Sogndal went into game lying inside the relegation zone but they overpowered Start to go out of the danger-zone for the first time this season.

The former Hearts of Oak striker instinctively finished off a move he engineered to peck the scoring before he was replaced in the 85th minute.

Ghanaian international Ernest Asante was introduced by Start 12 minutes from time but he could not help alter the fate of the game for his side.

Otoo has scored four times in all competitions this season with many of the goals coming in the past three weeks.

@Maxwell Johnson. Being a dumb contributor on GSN who doesn't research before writing, I have only one question for a very wise research fellow like you. "Can you please tell us dumb fellows how many goals Mr Otoo has scored since leaving the shores of Ghana? You should know this because you are a research fellow. I rest my case since dumb guys don't need to talk too much. Thx.

@maxwell johnson 3 league goals in 8 appearances is an awful record for a centre forward playing in an average league like d norweigian league. Compared to leagues like ligue 1,serie A,EPL it should be easier to score in d norweigian league. A quality centre forward playing in an average league should be averaging at least 0.8 goal in every game. That is like 6 goals in 8 games,10 goals in 14 games.Something like dat. Look at waris stats when he was playing in d swedish league,23 goals in 30 appearances. That is d type of stats to expect 4rm a quality striker playing in an average league.

Too many empty barrels on GSN, some of you guys here are really dumb or perhaps don't research properly before blogging. The Norwegian tippeligaen commenced just over a month ago and this was the 8th week fixture, if the chap has managed to score 3 goals in 8 appearance then he gotta be commended besides he didn't start in some of the games. That's an average of a goal in every 2 games which is not bad, remember he had already scored in a cup game also. Playing for a bottom club with lotta average players like that aint easy so you could imagine how the supplies are gonna come for him to bang in the goals therefore if he has managed to made the difference over the past couple of weeks then he deserves some credit. At least he's shown that the goal king & MVP award he won in GH wasn't a fluke unlike former goal kings like Clottey, Bekeo, Baffour, Idan among others who made lotta noises in the domestic league buh were complete flops when they went abroad. Am not saying he should be included in the final squad for the WC buh if current form is anything to go by then he should at least be in the provisional 30 man squad that will definitely boost his confidence and make him work even harder for future call-ups. However if he doesn't make the cut then fine, his time will definitely come. Congrats Otoo I never doubted your abilities cuz I knew you have the potential to make it big in your career, its only a matter of time before you explode. Just keep on banging in the goals and help Sogndal finish in a respectable position. I wanna see you in one of the elite leagues next season, undoubtedly one of our future strikers keep it up boy!

GSN koraa......,,what is this? Ok, I scored a hat-trick today playing with my friends at my backyard. My second goal was a screamer from my own half. This brings my tally for the week to 6.Akwasi Appiah better include me in his 30 man squad since I have made a strong case for my inclusion.

There is every evidence that these writers get paid to promote players. All of a sudden, few hours before AA releases his 30-man squad, somebody scores his 4th goal in the entire season and he makes a strong case for his inclusion. So AA must drop Asamoah Gyan for the new striking wonder! See why we are so behind?

You guys must be crazy. This striker has scored 4 times the whole year so he must go to the WC. So he is better than which of the Black Stars' strikers. We have 23 positions, and we must include all players who have scored at least 4 goals. Accam has scored more than 4 goals, so has Jordan, Adoma, Assifua, Adiyia, Afum and Boakye Yiadom. Who should we drop for him. Your logic is quarked.

Is there an association of "BLACK STARS CALL-UP CONTRACTORS' UNION"? Many of the journalists on GSN surely qualify for membership. How can a journalsit for a top website like GSN write, 'Otto has scored four goals in all competitions this season with MANY of his goals coming in the past three weeks'. Shame!
