Ghana has been handed a massive injury boost with news Abdul Majeed Waris will be fit for their opening game at the 2014 World Cup against the USA, GHANAsoccernet.com is reliably informed.

The 22-year-old limped off clutching his left thigh in the Ghana’s impressive 4-0 win over South Korea in their final warm up match in Miami on Monday.

Waris, who spent the last half of the ended European season in France with Valenciennes had a further assessment of his injury on Tuesday.

The MRI scans conducted on the injury revealed the Spartak Moscow hitman has suffered a minimal tear which is not as serious as initially feared.

He is therefore required to rest for three days and should be ready to resume to full scale training by Saturday – two clear days before the Black Stars take to the field in their opening group game against the USA in Natal.

Waris joined the rest of his international teammates as they checked out of their base in Miami on Tuesday afternoon for Brazil.

The news comes as a massive relief to coach Kwesi Appiah who has already lost defender Jerry Akaminko to injury in their first warm up match against the Netherlands on May 31.

Good news.hoping for the best but should incase u cant make it then inform the medical Doctors so that u will be replaced on time.
    All the best.

    • Askantwi says:

Thank God. Coach Akwasi Appiah should play all 3 strikers from start. 4-3-3 formation would be great. Gyan, Wariss and Jordan upfront whilst Andre, Boateng and Kwadwo behind them in midfield. A World Cup winning squad right there.

  2. Pinto says:

That’s good news. After all we are a bit relief.

  3. daddy mac says:

This is good news for Ghana but I still think Jordan should start. He’s hot right now and Waris should come off the bench. Unless he had something special that we never got to see. But I will always start someone who’s hot for goals. Experience or not. That is what sport is all about. when you are hot it is hard for opponents to stop you no matter what. Right now he has the nose for goals.

    • Stranger Danger says:

come on. That’s a silly argument. Waris has shown steady and increasing good grades vs Jordan who hasnt so much. you are telling me because person a had a spark of ambition+patience+luck that caused him to excel way more than he naturally would and way more than person b ever had, then the future of his success in the field is brighter than person b?

  9. Nana,Vancouver says:

Sorry Jordan for doubting you,if warris is not able I really thnk Appiah should send him home for his own good and call up Edusei or Vorsah in his place cuz right now .We all seen Appiahs system of play he’s offensive minded and nothing wrong with that .in a perfect world send Adomah and Inkoom home pick Vorsah and John Mensah ,Edusei or Ainooson and Warris healthy .with that squad even Brazil can’t beat us

  10. agyego says:

i hope that: with the help of God ghana will overcome U S A . PORTUGAL;draw with German and proceed to the next stage.Amen

  12. Chu says:

I don’t think he needs to be rushed. Cause Jordy has gained the confidence needed for starting. Warris can make a wonderful cameo

  13. shampele says:

god with u all.I do not forget about you in prayers since you got injured Waris .expecially in my kiamalail. alhamdulillah go Ghana go africa

  14. African Consciousness says:

Rest Waris and play Jordan for the USA game. Give my man plenty of time to be 100%. The USA game will be very physical and Waris is coming off an injury he will be really ready against Germany on June 21st that gives him over 2 weeks rest to fully heal and recover. No need to replace him. That is what tournaments are all about excercise your options.

Waris seems to be the target. In Accra his own team mate Dauda went after him. Now the South Koreans. I am glad he is destined to be in Brazil.

Waris watch tapes of some great African strikers, Asamoah Gyan and Didier Drogba. What they have in common is their charisma and personality, emulate them and you will have less injuries. These guys joke around with the opponent’s defense and get them to relax. The do not try to fight them. They also don’t hesitate to catch the referee’s attention and win them over to their side. If you want to have a along career as a striker you have to be wise and smart, you also have to always anticipate that the defender might be coming at you and work on your hurdles to avoid injuries and finally grow eyes on the back of your head. We only have 3 true strikers and you have to stay healthy throughout the tournament.

Am happy that our player is back. God be with the Black Stars of Ghana
