Ghana has been handed a massive injury boost with news Abdul Majeed Waris will be fit for their opening game at the 2014 World Cup against the USA, GHANAsoccernet.com is reliably informed.

The 22-year-old limped off clutching his left thigh in the Ghana’s impressive 4-0 win over South Korea in their final warm up match in Miami on Monday.

Waris, who spent the last half of the ended European season in France with Valenciennes had a further assessment of his injury on Tuesday.

The MRI scans conducted on the injury revealed the Spartak Moscow hitman has suffered a minimal tear which is not as serious as initially feared.

He is therefore required to rest for three days and should be ready to resume to full scale training by Saturday – two clear days before the Black Stars take to the field in their opening group game against the USA in Natal.

Waris joined the rest of his international teammates as they checked out of their base in Miami on Tuesday afternoon for Brazil.

The news comes as a massive relief to coach Kwesi Appiah who has already lost defender Jerry Akaminko to injury in their first warm up match against the Netherlands on May 31.
