Ghana U17 coach Paa Kwesi Fabin says the left-back position is the Achilles heel of the Black Stars ahead of the 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup finals.

The former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak coach Paa Kwesi Fabin believes the Black Stars have a good and formidable team but however lack an ace left-back.

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah will name his provisional 30-man squad next Tuesday and Fabin thinks getting a formidable headache should be his priority.

“I think the problem of the Black Stars is the left back position,” Fabin told Nhyira FM

“I hope Akwasi Appiah has been able to comb around the world to get us an outstanding left back for the World Cup.”

The Black Stars need left-footed players at left back. This helps the player on the overlap to deliver quality crosses with the left foot. We have Schlupp, David Addy, Nana Kwesi Asare and Baba Rahman. Afful and Opare should compete for the right back being right-footed players. It is always an advantage when a striker turns defender as Schlupp has. It was Alex Ferguson's recommendation to Leicester City that has paid off. Schlupp is fast robust and skillful coming forward on the overlap. He has also got height to be relied on at defending set pieces as has been pointed out. With him, David Addy who is also tall/skillful, B Rahman and Nana Kwesi Asare we should be able to have options that will aid the structure for a balanced team. . Afful and Opare should stick to the right back being right-footed defenders. It should be obvious that the Black stars lack quality crosses from the wings. This limits our options for penetration and goal scoring chances. One good cross may be all that we need for good connection, goal scored and qualification.

well said sammva.if he doesnt get his chance how will we know if he is or is not? but check this-Ashley Cole played as an attacker out on loan as a youth and came back to arsenal as a left back, the rest is history.Gareth Bale was for years a left back but his attacking instincts meant he finally moved up the wing. Schlupp is strong, quick and is a center forward converted to left back in a team that has just won the Championship in England. He comes across as selfless one who will do his all for the team and to get into the team. Thats the attitude we need. K Asamoah has been doing left back for Juventus and has done it distinction so give Schlupp a chance. For his physical presence, pace and attacking instincts which one has come to expect from the modern day left back. And please by all account hopefully AA will consider accam too who on current form is one of the most improved players from the last year to this one. bless
