2014 World Cup: Ghana will give it everything, vows defender Harrison Afful

Harrison Afful has pledged that Ghana will aim to match their performance against Germany to try to reach the FIFA World Cup last 16.

Kwesi Appiah's men were unfortunate not to take all three points from an enthralling 2-2 draw with Germany on Saturday.

Afful played a key role in that game, supplying the cross for Andre Ayew to cancel out Mario Gotze's second-half opener, before Asamoah Gyan completed an unexpected turnaround.

But there was a final twist in the tale as Germany substitute Miroslav Klose rescued a point for Joachim Low's side by scoring the 15th World Cup goal of his career, tying Brazil great Ronaldo for the most in the history of the competition.

Ghana can still qualify despite the draw, although a United States victory over Portugal on Sunday would all but eliminate them from the competition. However, regardless of the permutations, Afful is adamant Ghana will fight to the end.

"It's a shame we couldn't win. It would have been great to take all three points," Afful

"But we ran ourselves into the ground and played really well against a team of the calibre of Germany.

"We've still got a game to go and we're going to give it our all to go through.

"If we don't qualify, it won't be for lack of effort."

Ghana's final group game with Portugal takes place in Brasilia on Thursday.

PORTUGUAL needs to win or else Usa will be qualified. And there is no way germany will not beat USA. Portigual win. Germany beats USA and Ghana beat Portigual. 1.germany 2. Ghana. Today im the biggest Ronaldo/Portugual fan.

Afful congratulations to you. You played an excellent game against the Germans. You should be bold to criticise your Appiah for dropping you against the US in favour of half-fit Opare who did not even played in the friendly matches. What the hell is Appiah drinking. Even when it was evident Opare was struggling with his poor crossings and giving the balls cheaply to the Yankees, Appiah still kept him in the game. Thank God, your performance has vindicated you. Appiah should be held responsible if Ghana exit in the first round. Thank you Afful for the cross which led to the first goal. Opare couldn't cross one ball in 90 minutes and Appiah thinks he is better than you.A dumb coach who doesn't know his players after 3 years in charge.
