Former Ghana Under-20 star Frank Acheampong wants local players to be offered the chance in the Black Stars ahead of the 2014 World Cup since some of them are more ‘talented’ than the so-called foreign-based stars.

The race to Brazil has intensified with players eager to catch the eye of coach Kwesi Appiah.

The next couple of weeks will be the most crucial for the Ghanaian trainer as he firms up his final squad for the global showpiece.

The provisional 30-man squad to be released next month will determine the sort of arsenal he intends to unleash on the World beginning June 12.

The Africans can boasts of many, many talented players in their country with both local and foreign-based players anxiously waiting to know their fate ahead of the naming of the provisional squad.

It is however clear that coach Appiah will stick with majority of his foreign-based players with just a handful of locals likely to make the cut.

But Acheampong, who plays for Belgian giants Anderlecht, believes home-based players can excel if given the opportunity at the international stage because some are more talented.

“Why not because some of the local players are more talented than the players in Europe but it is the decision of the Coach to select any player fit for his team,” he said

“I think if the player is playing in the local league or a foreign country, it doesn’t matter.

There have been massive campaigns to have CHAN stars including Abeiku Ainooson (Kotoko), Nuru Sulley (Hearts), Kwabena Edusei (Kotoko) and Stephen Adams (Aduana Stars) drafted into the team ahead of World Cup.
