Ghana’s team doctor Baba Adamu says Majeed Waris will be monitored up until the eve of their opening group game against the USA when a definite decision will be taken over his participation at the 2014 World Cup.

The 22-year-old limped off early clutching his left thigh in the friendly win over South Korea on Monday night.

Further tests on the injury reveals Waris has suffered a minimal tear but is expected to be back training after a few days of rest.

Dr. Baba Adamu now says the Spartak Moscow striker will be given as much time as possible to prove his fitness before Ghana’s opening Group G game against the USA this coming Monday in Natal

“He had a knock on his left thigh and he had to come off [against South Korea],” Dr. Baba Adamu said.

“We initially tried to see if he could go back to play but we realized it was an injury that needed to be taken care of and managed well.

“So after the initial treatment, we took him to the hospital for further investigations, we did an MRI and we realized there was a tear.

“So me together with my medical team sat down to evaluate the injury and we hope to get him onto the field of play pretty soon.

“However we’ll still monitor him up to the deadline when we’ll give a final statement on his state.

"The FIFA deadline is 15 [June], so we will monitor till that day and see how things turn up.”

GHANAsoccernet.com is however reliably informed Waris will need just three days rest before returning to full scale training with the Black Stars.

The Right to Dream Academy graduate hopes to play in his first major tournament for Ghana following a productive loan spell at French club Valenciennes in the last half of the European season.
