Former Ghana star goalkeeper Ali Jaraah has backed Fatau Dauda to excel at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

There are doubts surrounding Dauda's readiness to be Ghana’s first choice goalkeeper at the tournament due to the lack of game time at club level.

Dauda impressed at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and got signed by South African giants Orlando Pirates.

But the former AshantiGold player remains down the pecking order and has featured in three games this term.

His prolonged absence from the post has caused calls for him to be replaced by Adam Kwarasey who had a stellar season with Norwegian champions Stromsgodset.

Jaraah, a star for Ghana at the 1993 FIFA U17 World Cup, is still adamant Dauda will be up to the task.

"Fatau is an exciting goalkeeper who I have watched grow with so much pride and happiness," the former Hearts of Oak player told GHANASoccernet.com

"He is very active in post and commands his lines well. It's a bit strange he is taking time to adapt in South Africa but that's soccer for you.

"He is one of the good goalkeepers around at the moment and I feel he will have a good World Cup campaign if he is given the opportunity.

"But off course the coach will decide who ultimately gets the not and I feel the competition in that position will ultimately be to benefit of the team."
