2014 World Cup: Italy the largest contributor to Ghana's squad

The Italian top flight contributed the largest number of players to Ghana’s final squad for the 2014 World Cup with FIVE of the twenty three coming from the Serie-A.

AC Milan duo; Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari were named in the final Black Stars squad as Juventus’ Kwadwo Asamoah, Udinese’s Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Afriyie Acquah of Parma.

France came second as the largest contributor with four players; Andre and Jordan Ayew (both with Olympique Marseille), Stade Rennes John Boye and Evian TG’s Jonanathan Mensah coming from Ligue 1.

Russia follows suit with three players; Mubarak Wakaso of Rubin Kazan, Kuban Krasnodar's Rabiu Mohammed and Abdul Majeed Waris who is substantively on the books of Spartak Moscow even though he spent the last half of the season in France with Valenciennes.

The other eleven players are scattered across the rest of Europe, Africa and in Asia.

Harrison Afful, Rashid Sumaila and goalkeepers Fatau Dauda and Stephen Adams make the squad from teams on the African continent with Tunisian and South African champions Eseperance and Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Aduana Stars respectively.

Adam Kwarasey comes from Norwegian champions Stromsgodset while Samuel Inkoom, Christian Atsu and Albert Adomah are drawn from the Greek, Dutch and English championship with Platanias, Vitesse and Middelsborough respectively.

Kevin-Prince Boateng from German club Schalke and Asamoah Gyan from UAE giants Al Ain.
