2014 World Cup: John Mensah must work his way into Black Stars - Joe Addo

Ex-Ghana international Joe Addo does not expect John Mensah to walk straight into the Black Stars ahead of the 2014 World Cup.

Mensah is being considered for a call-up into the team despite concerns over his fitness.

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has insisted he will invite the Nitra FC new recruit if he proves his match fitness.

The former Lyon man is highly regarded as the country’s finest defender in the last decade and touted as the ideal player to bring some stability at the heart of defense.

However, there are still concerns over his full fitness after playing just 11 minutes in his last game for Slovakian side Nitra FC with just two months before the start of the global showpiece.

Joe Addo, who has been a key admirer of the former Sunderland defender, wants him to justify his inclusion in the team.

“Just because his name is John Mensah doesn’t warrant him a Black Stars call-up. He has to work for it,” Addo told Radio XYZ

“He has to really perform well at his club and stay fit. And if the Coach sees it, he will give him a chance.

“I have been a key admirer of Mensah because I think he has been the most intelligent of our defenders over the last decade.

“We have struggled for stability at the back since he got injured and so if he is fit, I don’t see why he cannot be there.

“But like I said, he has to work for it.”

Mensah has made 79 appearances for Ghana since 2001, scoring 3 goals.

Joe addo why are u a fool? Ghana is football nation and as such we have alots of talented footballers both home and abroad so we cannot rely on john mensah anymore we need young energetic guys like boye, akaminko,Edward kpodo , Vorsah if fit to do the job at the back for us . Why this old John mensah who cannot Even play 45 minutes in such a low profile league. Black stars are not for a certain Individuals is for all ghanaians so if your days are over is pls John Mensah retire from black stars and pave the way for the young ones .Ronaldinho the master of ball juggler is still actively playing club football but yet he is not in Brazilian nation team , Africans especially ghanaians are too greedy hey injury prone John mensah u enjoyed 2006,2010 world cup monies allow the young guys too come and enjoy small don't be so greedy as a politician in ghana called j.h mensah .if this toy local coach calls u into black star then there might be something wrong in the head .

What at all does this guy want in the BS again? The last time we took you to a major tournament you could not even play a full match. When we complained you annoyed us the more by saying it is not your doing by being injured, despite the fact that we knew you had a problem. We don't want to be foolish again by sending you to Brazil so that you end up playing just 45 minutes only and start complaining. The BS team is not a charity home, please! You have done your part and Ghanaians appreciate it. You should learn to know when to call it quit from the national team, you moron!
