Kwesi Appiah has praised John Mensah for the gracious way he has accepted his omission from Ghana’s World Cup.

The Ghanaian trainer announced a provisional 26-man squad to the tournament on Monday without the experienced centre-back.

Mensah, who currently plays for Slovakian side Nitra, has seen a rather fine career blighted by injuries.

Appiah was forced to drop the ‘intelligent’ defender due to concerns over his fitness and he has admitted it was not an easy decision to make.

He said: John is a player I really appreciate. It was a hard decision to explain to him but he accepted it,” he said.

“He is a magnificent player who has done a lot for his country.

“At the end of the day it was decision to make. It was a hard call I must admit.

"The gracious way he accepted the decision and accepted it was a choice I had to make."

The 31-year-old who has 79 caps to his credit played at the last two editions of the global piece.
