Former France captain Marcel Desailly is rooting for Ghana to excel at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, insisting unity and motivation will be key to achieving the ultimate.

The Africans are drawn in a difficult group which comprises of ‘old friends’ USA and Germany as well as Portugal.

The Black Stars are hugely touted as the continent’s real chance of winning the World Cup following their progressive performance at the last two editions.

The Ghanaian reached the last 16 stage in Germany 2006 and got to the quarters four years later in South Africa.

Dessaily believes the sense of unity and motivation will prove crucial to the success of the team.

“For me the World Cup always brings me good memories,” he is quoted Le Parisien.

“And this year promises to be another package, I will obviously be rooting for France and Ghana and I feel they both have good chances.

“Ghana will need unity and the sense of togetherness which saw them do well in the previous editions.

"When you get to a stage like the World Cup you hardly require any motivation you just need to keep a calm head and the coach has to ensure players feel as one, for me that is the key to success in big competitions.”
