Midfielder Michael Essien is in hot waters with the Ghana Football Association for staying away from the warm-up before the final Group G match against Portugal in Brasilia.

It is unclear why the AC Milan player decided to boycott the pre-requisite, which was supervised by assistant coach Maxwell Konadu.

But the widely held view is that, he was protesting against the sacking of his pals Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng for violent behaviour and indiscipline hours before the match.

The Ghana Football Association has vowed to wield the disciplinary axe on the former Chelsea player for his indiscretion.

“I think that the coach just mentioned to you that he had just referred the case of Michael Essien-he is made his recommendations; management will take a position on that,” Nyantakyi said on Wednesday.

“We are not going to condone any case of indiscipline. You can be the best player in the team. If you don’t behave yourself the axe will fall on you.

“You must also bear in mind that indiscipline is infectious. If you don’t amputate it from the team, it will spread and affect the rest of your players.”
