Controversial Ghanaââ¬â¢s deputy sports minister Joseph Yammin has confirmed ONLY supporters and sympathizers of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be flown to Brazil to support the Black Stars at the World Cup.
The countryââ¬â¢s sports chief Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah confirmed this week that 500 Ghanaian fans will fly out to the South American country to cheer on the Black Stars at the global showpiece.
But it has now emerged that majority of the fans have been drawn from supporters of the ruling Nations Democratic Congress with supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party and others left in the cooler.
The countryââ¬â¢s deputy sports boss insists majority of the supporters of the ruling government will be given the opportunity to travel to Brazil to support the team.
ââ¬ÅWeââ¬â¢re taken supporters to Brazil. I will say without a shred of doubt that majority of those supporters will be members of NDC,â⬠he said
ââ¬ÅIn 2006, about 250 supporters were sent to Germany and my checks indicate that only seven NDC members were part of the team.
ââ¬ÅI will not be hypocrite and say weââ¬â¢ll share it equally. You can take it or leave it. Weââ¬â¢ll give them their small number and ensure majority of the people we send are NDC supporters.
ââ¬ÅThey are the people who brought the party to power and so they must benefit from the party.
ââ¬ÅYou can say whatever you want, but NDC supporters are going to Brazil.
The former Ashanti regional secretary is not new in courting controversy after he ââ¬Ëreadââ¬â¢ politics in Ghanaââ¬â¢s World Cup group decider against Zambia in September last year.
He urged the team to beat the Chipolopolo to further the cap of his government â⬓ a comment à which drew wild criticism from many Ghanaian fans.
Yammin latest comment could worsen the already polarized political temperature in the country which has been divided sharply between the ruling government and opposition New Patriotic Party.
