The Puma shop in Ghana have launched the new Black Stars kits with excitement fast gaining momentum ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Ex Ghana players; Frimpong Manso, Emmanuel Ampiah, Isaac Kwakye and Godwin Ablodey modelled the new home kits at the launch held at the Puma Shop at the Accra Mall on Saturday morning.

The event was witnessed by Anthony Baffoe, Stephen Appiah and Tony Yeboah with Black Stars defender Samuel Inkoom also in the wings amongst the special invited guests.

The new kit which has been heralded by many since its first appearance during the Ghana’s international friendly defeat to Montenegro in March is expected to give the Black Stars the best of luck as they make their third successive appearance at the World Cup finals in June.

But former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has urged the players to put in the necessary hard work to ensure success in Brazil rather to rely solely on luck.

“The jersey is beautiful and what it does is to make the players feel good about their appearance and motivated,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“But the jerseys don’t play football; the players must work hard to give us victory in Brazil.

“And I believe we have the team capable enough to do well again at the World Cup.”

Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah made a surprise appearance at the event to give his seal of approval to the new kits.

“The jersey gives us the identity of Ghana and t carries the spirit of all Ghanaians,” he said.

“And as the players wear this jersey at the World Cup, they would be backed by the spirits of all Ghanaians in Brazil.”

The new kits feature PUMA’s new football apparel innovation PWR ACTV, a first-to-market use of both athletic taping and compression within the apparel.

The ACTV tape is strategically placed within the garment to provide micro-massages on the skin, working with the human body to help maximise performance and provide players with a faster, more effective energy supply to the active muscles.

This combined with the underarm mesh inserts for increased breathability and freedom of movement, will help Ghana have a competitive advantage at this year’s World Cup.

The home shirt features bold African inspired graphic print inserts on the neck and sleeves that represent the pride of Ghana and the national team nickname the Black Stars.

The print is created in the national flag colours, with stars and a football field graphic.
