2014 World Cup: Portugal v Ghana- Asamoah Gyan can be key man in Black Stars victory

With both sides still harbouring hopes, albeit slim hopes if you are a Portugal fan, of reaching the knockout phase this game promises to live up to what we have already seen in the World Cup so far – goals, goals and more goals!

Portugal need three points and a massive goals swing to qualify, while Ghana and need to improve their goal difference if they are to have any hopes of reaching the second round.

But with over 100 markets available on this crucial World Cup clash, Oliver Yew takes a look further afield for the three best bets on the action at the Estádio Nacional de Brasilia.

Asamoah Gyan to score and Ghana to win

Ghana were unlucky not to seal all three points with their spirited performance against Germany last time out but the Black Stars can put that disappointment behind them when they take on Portugal.

And if James Kwesi Appiah’s side are to get the victory that could see them progress to the knockout stages, Asamoah Gyan, who needs just one goal to become Africa’s all-time leading World Cup goalscorer, should be at the forefront for Ghana.

The former Sunderland man became the first African player to score at three different World Cup finals with his strike against the Germans and can put Portugal to the sword in Brasília, sparking even more of these celebrations.

Ronaldo to score

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is playing in his sixth major tournament and has scored at least one goal in the previous five he has taken part in.

The 29-year-old has failed to find the net so far in Brazil in Portugal’s opening two matches but, as they say, you can’t keep a good man down and we are backing Ronaldo to come good against Ghana and continue his scoring record on the big stage.

With both the previous selections in mind and Ghana good for goals at either end we are backing the Black Stars to win with both teams scoring. The African nation showed how dangerous they can be going forward against Germany and should have really sealed the win with some great late chances.

But they have also shown how capable they are of conceding in the games against USA and Germany and, while they can do enough to seal all three points, it’s difficult to see Ronaldo and co. not finding the net.
