2014 World Cup: Potential Ghana squad
Kevin-Prince Boateng

With the World Cup now less than 40 days away, the footballing world will soon descend upon on Brazil.

Here, we focus on Ghana and the potential squad they will take to the tournament.

In the last World Cup, Ghana were knocked out in the quarter-finals in controversial fashion by Uruguay. If they can make it through their group this time it will be a big boost for the team, with tough opponents to come in Germany, Portugal and USA.

It's a tough ask but Kwesi Appiah will be looking to motivate his squad to do just that. Ghana have a number of well-known players that play in Europe and can perform on the biggest stage.

Probable squad of 23:

Goalkeepers - Fatau Dauda, Adam Kwarasey & Stephen Adams

Defenders - John Boye, Jerry Akaminko, Daniel Opare, Harrison Afful, Samuel Inkoom, Jonathan Mensah, Rashid Sumaila and Jeffrey Schlupp

Midfielders - Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Kwadwo Asamoah, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Wakaso Mubarak, Albert Adomah, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Andre Ayew

Forwards - Asamoah Gyan, Majeed Waris, Christian Atsu and Jordan Ayew

Key Player - Kevin-Prince Boateng. The former Portsmouth and current Schalke star has all the tools to be a defining player in this World Cup, especially with the teams he's played for and what's he done.

He's possibly not fulfilled his potential but this World Cup could answer any critics with his pace, trickery and ability to score crucial goals.

Player to watch - Majeed Waris. The young striker has impressed since moving to Valenciennes and has been seen as the potential saviour for the team with nine goals. His pace has been crucial.

The manager - Kwesi Appiah. He took the role in April 2012 and since taking charge he has managed fourth place in the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

Appiah has dealt with numerous stars going into exile but they have returned for the World Cup.

With this squad being viewed as the golden generation of Ghanian football, now could be the time to showcase what Ghana and Appiah can do.
