South African defender Happy Jele has thrown his weight behind Ghana among all the African countries at the 2014 World Cup to shine.

The 27-year-old Orlando Pirates captain is confident the Black Stars will emerge out of a 'Group of Death' to become Africa's best side at the competition.

Ghana, who reached the quarter-finals at the last edition in South Africa, have been paired with tournament favourites Germany, Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal and USA.

But Jele who is a team-mate of Ghana keeper Fatau Dauda is confident the West African giants will prove doubters wrong and cause an upset after watching their pre-tournament games.

"I think for me I will go for Ghana again," Jele tells KickOff.com.

"Their preparation for them going to this tournament has been good. I saw one of their warm-up games, they played good football. I go with them."

Jele also expressed hopes his team-mate Fatau Dauda will excel at the World Cup if he is chosen to be between the sticks for Ghana despite the obvious lack of playing time at Pirates in the just ended season.

"I'm happy for him. He is a great keeper and I'm hoping that he will play in the tournament."

The Black Stars open their campaign against old foes United States on Monday night in Natal.
