Striker David Accam is relishing his opportunity with the Ghana national team having been named in the provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup.

The 23-year-old was one of the major surprises sprung by coach Kwesi Appiah when he named his provisional 26-man squad for June’s tournament in Brazil.

Accam has been in good form for Helsingborg this season and is being tracked by English giants Manchester United.

Many believe he will be one of the casualties in the final cut to be made by coach Kwesi Appiah in order to reach his required 23-man squad.

But the Right to Dream Academy graduate says he will make the most out of the opportunity given.

“The coach obviously saw something in me that is why he called me up into the provisional squad,” he told Metro FM.

“I have played fourteen games and scored 12 goals this season but I know I am coming up against heavyweights like Asamoah Gyan and Majeed Waris who are all doing very well.

“But it is a chance I will relish and make the most out of it so that hopefully I get to make the final squad.”

Accam is yet to make his debut for the Black Stars team despite benefitting from previous call ups.
