2015 AFCON: Avram Grant confident Ghana can beat South Africa in crucial decider

Published on: 26 January 2015

Ghana coach Avram Grant remains confident his charges will grind out a result against South Africa in Tuesday's must-win game.

It has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride for the West Africans at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

After the heart-rending 2-1 loss through a last gasp winner vs. Senegal in their opening game, the sensational 1-0 win over best-in-Africa Algeria has provided a soothing balm to the wounds suffered earlier on.

Now, understandably buoyed by this last victory, Ghana head coach Avram Grant has expressed his confidence that his team can take on and defeat South Africa in their next game.

The Israeli, however, did not forget to praise Ghana’s opponents in the midst of his fist pumping.

“Nothing has been decided yet in this group,” said the former Chelsea manager after Ghana stole all three points vs. Algeria.

“Yes, we may have beaten the number one team in Africa, but we now face South Africa, who qualified for this tournament ahead of a big team like Nigeria.

“They played very well in their first game even though they eventually lost to Algeria. They are a fantastic team.

“We are a young team who have shown we do not give up and so we will come into any game to win it.”
