Ghana will play Mozambique in the qualifiers

Mozambique's football squad, the Mambas, continues in the tail at the risk of dropping out of the list of the world's best 100 football nations, after falling down one more position, from 94 to 95, according to the fresh list released by the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA).

The defeat at the Zimpeto National Stadium in Maputo early in June against Rwanda in the qualifiers for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations is pointed out as one of the key reasons that led the Mambas to step back in the ranking.

The defeat also led to the sacking of its former coach, Joao Chissano, two months earlier from the official end of his contract with the Mozambique's Football Federation.

Mozambique lost in the first match for qualification for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) with 1-0, reducing the chances it had to qualify to the competition, while in Group H there is no easy match especially against Ghana, a football squad well positioned in the FIFA ranking.

Though Mozambican football squad is in the tail at the world ranking, it is better positioned in the ranking of African football squads by occupying the 25 position with 345 points as it has for the world ranking.

Mozambique has chances to jump up more positions if it keeps up the good performance it had when it played against Seychelles recently as part of the qualification for the internal African championship to be held next year in Rwanda, with a 9-1 victory.
