Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah is in top form ahead of the Black Stars Afcon 2017 qualifier with the Amavubi of Rwanda on September 3, club insiders have revealed.

Many have questioned why Jonathan was included in the 24-man squad since he is inactive but club insiders have told Ghanasoccernet.com that he is the most in-form player at Evian first team training.

FIFA judged that Mensah was still contracted to Udinese when he joined French club Evian Thonon Gaillard four years ago claiming to be a free agent and issued a four month ban that has kept him from active league duty.

The sanction  however is not spent during the off season and does not apply to national team friendlies or qualifiers.

Mensah 25, has become the defensive leader of the national team after struggles to build upon his promise as a teen phenom during the 2009 U-20 World Cup and 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Mensah was a member of the Black Stars squad that walloped Mauritius and did not show sings of rustiness making him a defensive pillar in the Ghana set up since his ban a few months ago.
