Former Ghana youth midfielder Awudu Issaka is optimistic that the Black Starlets have what it takes to clinch the FIFA U-17 World Cup currently ongoing in India.

The Black Starlets impressively edged out fellow West African country the young Menas of Niger 2-0 in the round of 16 at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday.

Following the win against the Nigeriens, the two-time world champions have been paired against old nemesis Mali in the quarter final.

Many have pressed the panic button as the team face off against the African champions following their recent fine record against the Black Starlets.

But Awudu Issaka, who was a core member of the Black Starlets squad that clinched the 1995 World Cup,  believes Ghana can edge out their Malian counterparts and go on to bring home the trophy.

“We have all seen the fighting spirit of these young boys and the determination in their play, I will commend them for their effort so far especially against Niger where they were able to withstand their physical strength," Issaka told Happy FM.

“I strongly believe the Black Starlets can go all the way by God’s grace and edge out the Malians in quarter-final and progress further."

The much-talked about clash will come off on Saturday October 21 in Guwahati.
