FIFA has reverted to Ghana's favourable qualifying format that helped the Black Stars to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 2006.

The Black Stars qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 2006 when they adopted the league format for qualifying for the global tournament.

However another format was deployed for the 2014 World Cup which led to the tense qualifying campaign which culminated in Ghana defeating Egypt in the play-off to qualify for the tournament in Brazil.

But FIFA will deploy the league format which Ghanaians are comfortable with as it allows the team to pick up even if it falters at a stage in the league format.

The competing teams will have to go through two preliminary rounds in order to bring the number of teams down to 20.

This means teams will constitute five (5) groups of four teams, where the first from each group will qualifier for the World Cup.

The preliminaries of the FIFA World Cup shall begin during the two FIFA dates in October 2015.

The draws shall take place on 25 July 2015 at Saint-Petersburg in Russia.

The road to 2018 FIFA World Cupâ„¢ will be set out for five of the six confederations on Saturday 25 July when the Preliminary Draw takes place at the Konstantin Palace in St. Petersburg.

All draw procedures are subject to approval by the FIFA Organising Committee for the FIFA World Cup at its meeting on 24 July 2015 in St. Petersburg.
