Statistical analyst, Thomas Freeman Yeboah has dug deep into the archives to feed readers with the 6 worst league defeats of Asante Kotoko, after Dwarfs put up a 5-star performance to whitewash the Porcupine Warriors 4-1 on Wednesday.
1. Dwarfs 5-0 Kotoko
The loss to Dwarfs was on Kotoko’s 34 birthday.
Dwarfs handed Asante Kotoko a never to be forgotten birthday present on 31 August 1969 on their 34 birthday. This was after Kotoko had returned from their trip in the UK, as the first Ghanaian side to embark on a training tour abroad.
Forward Robert Kwofie started the wallop in the 19 minute, before dribbling machine Edwin Conduah doubled their lead in the 21 minute.
Black Stars defender, Oliver connected a ball into his net to give Dwarfs 3-0 lead in the 25 minute. The rest of the first half failed to produce any more goals.
Kotoko, after the break, couldn’t come out with a solution to contain Dwarfs, hence conceded two more goals through A.K Mensah and Kwofie to complete the massacre.

2. HEARTS 4 - 0 KOTOKO

There is nothing we can write to do justice to this game. It is the heaviest Hearts of Oak win against Kotoko; it's Kotoko's most massive defeat against Hearts. It stands out as the famous scoreline in the Hearts-Kotoko rivalry, and it has stood as the height to which the new generation of Phobia players can aspire. It is also the single biggest weapon in the Hearts armoury that will silence a million Kotoko supporters. Ishmael Addo's first half exquisite brace, coupled with Kenneth Sarpong's peach of a goal and Emmanuel Osei Kuffor's gorgeous ghosting goal, are the historic moments in Ghanaian club football that will never go into oblivion.
3. KOTOKO 0-3 AKOTEX
Wednesday16th June, 1971
IIt was a massacre in Kumasi as the Sensational Akotex, invaded the Ashanti Regional Capital, outplayed and outscored, the champions of Africa 3-0 at their backyard in an incredible manner. It was the Akosombo lads first season in the league, so they were underrated by Asante Kotoko.
Akotex’s dominance made Kotoko, who fielded all their key players look inferior. They took the Kumasi Stadium by storm as they threw everything into attack right from the blast of the referee’s first whistle and broke the deadlock when the game was three minutes old through right winger Okyere.
The Porcupine Warriors accepted the challenge and tried to tame Akotex, but they found them a hard nut to crack. And Just as they were searching for the equaliser, the hosts were stunned again in the 40 minute, when inside left Sulley struck a thunderbolt to double Akotex’s lead in the 40 minute.
Sulley scored his personal double of the day in the 48 minute to execute the coup-de-grace in the 48 minute.

4. KOTOKO 0-3 BEREKUM CHELSEA

Asante Kotoko suffered their worst defeat by a non-Kumasi team at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi since 1971, when Berekum unthinkable by walloping them 3-0 to leave the Kumasi fans in a shock.
The Porcupine Warriors struggled to cope with Berekum Chelsea’s quick counter attacking football and in the process conceded two goals from Kofi Owusu, who would emerge as the season’s top scorer with 19 goals, before Asiwome Fumador with two minutes to end proceeding completed the wallop.
5. ASHGOLD 4-1 KOTOKO
Wednesday 9th June, 2004
Ashanti Gold won the bragging rights, as they hit four goals past their bitterest rivals in the Ashanti derby. Asante Kotoko shot into the lead through Aziz Ansah’s penalty in the 23rd minute, but the Miners in front of their cheering home fans staged a dramatic comeback to maul, the Porcupine Warriors 4-1.
The Cameroonian import, Valentine Atem, who had swerved the visitors some months earlier, was the toast of the fans and climaxed an afternoon of an outstanding display with two goals: He fetched the Miners, the equaliser just two minutes to the half time break and shot them into the lead later on.
Diminutive midfielder, Ofosu Amoah, Ofosu, who had also tormented Asante Kotoko throughout the game registered his name on the scoresheet in the 62 minute, before substitute Awudu Adama, put the icing on the cake with the fourth.
The game became the highest score line in the biggest regional derby in the Ghana Premier League. However, Kotoko responded in the return leg by whipping AshGold 4-0 to avenge the defeat in the second round.
6. DWARFS 4-1 KOTOKO

Relegation threatened Edusua Dwarfs sent the Cape Coast fans into an endless ecstasy, as they ditched star-studded Asante Kotoko 4-1 at the Robert Mensah Sports Stadium.
Bright Lukman led the demotion exercise, hitting a brace on the afternoon before aggrieved former Kotoko defender earned the needed revenge against his former club, who offloaded him, after returning from trials abroad, when he scored from the spot kick in the 28 minute. Nicholas Gyan finished the job for Dwarfs in the 54 minute before Kotoko got the consolation goal from Amos Frimpong’s penalty.
N/B: Criteria for listing the defeats in order of importance. It is clear that Dwarfs’ 5-0 and Hearts of Oak’s 4-0 will come in first and second places, respectively. The rest are three-goal margins: I rated the Ajotex game 3 because they were debutants and Kotoko were the champions of Africa and more so, the game happened in Kumasi. The Chelsea game came fourth because they edged Kotoko in Kumasi against all expectations. The AshGold game is rated 5th due to the level of rivalry between them and placed the Dwarfs victory on Wednesday at 6th place ahead of Corners win because Dwarfs before the game were in the drop zone.
