Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko continued their pre-season with a 0-0 draw 0-0 with Togolose champions AC Semassi on Sunday in a friendly.
The Porcupine Warriors had the chunk of possession but lacked the cutting edge to beat their hosts.
The return leg will be played at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday.
Kotoko coach Didi Dramani believes the nature of the pitch prevented his side from winning the match.
"We could have won this game but for the bad nature of the pitch. We will try and make amends on Wednesday," he said.
"It was a good exercise. Our aim is to give the players some international exposure."
Last week, Kotoko beat Ivorian side Tanda FC 1-0 in Kumasi last Sunday.
