ACL 2017 MD1 - Group H: Jeju United vs Jiangsu FC preview

Published on: 21 February 2017

Jeju: Korea Republic’s Jeju United are set to make their second appearance in the AFC Champions League after their debut in 2011 with a tough test against visitors Jiangsu FC of China on Wednesday.

Jeju’s only previous encounters against a Chinese club in the AFC Champions League ended in two defeats, against Tianjin Teda, but they do now boast the 2016 K-League Young Player of the Year, Ahn Hyun-beom, after the young forward enjoyed a fruitful first season on the southern island following his move from Ulsan Hyundai.

Opponents Jiangsu, meanwhile, endured a bitter-sweet 2016 domestic campaign, finishing second to Guangzhou Evergrande in the Chinese Super League, before losing the FA Cup final on away goals to the same opponent. The club are making their third appearance in the competition after taking part in the 2013 and 2016 editions but have yet to reach the knockout stages and struggle on the road having won only one of their six away games in the AFC Champions League.
