ACL 2017 MD4 - Group C: Al Ain 2-2 Al Ahli (KSA)

Published on: 11 April 2017

Al Ain: A last-gasp equaliser from Omar Al Soma saw Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia claim a dramatic 2-2 draw with Al Ain in the 2017 AFC Champions League on Tuesday to remain top of Group C.

Ismail Ahmed had sent the home crowd at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium into raptures after just six minutes when he prodded home following Omar Abdulrahman’s knockdown header, only for Al Ahli to level before the break as Al Soma headed home from a corner.

Al Ain enjoyed plentiful opportunities after the restart and Abdulrahman had appeared to clinch the tie for the hosts late on, scoring an 86th-minute penalty after Al Soma was adjudged to have handled. But the Syrian forward was to have the final laugh as he volleyed home a low shot from the edge of the area to ensure a share of the spoils.

The point means table-toppers Al Ahli stay two clear of Al Ain, who dropped to third place in the Group C standings after Zobahan's 2-1 victory over bottom side Bunyodkor helped the Iranian team move into second place and eliminated their Uzbek opponents.
